Chrome: Turning off Notifications

You have the ability in Chrome to choose if you would like to see notifications.  It is always a good idea to have notifications turned off when you are going to be presenting your screen, as we do with our TECs.  Follow these simple steps to disable notifications. Step 1: Open Chrome and click on the three lines in the upper right corner. Step 2: Select Settings from the menu. Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom and select "Show Advanced Settings." Step 4: In the Privacy section, Select "Content Settings..." Step 5: Scroll down until you see "Notifications". Step 6: By default, it is set to Ask when a site wants to show notifications (recommended).  To turn off notifications all together, select "Do not allow any site to show notifications"

Turning off Notifications in Facebook

Sometimes websites, like Facebook, will ask you to turn on notifications in Chrome.  This is not an issue if you are on your home computer, but if you are on your teaching computer at school, this can be a problem.  Thankfully turning off notifications in Facebook is really easy. Go to your Facebook account. Click the lock in the top right corner. Select "See More Settings" Select "Notifications" on the left side of your screen. Under the Desktop and Mobile section go to Desktop.  There will be a section for Chrome.  If you have it enabled, you will be able to choose Turn Off.

Google Mail: Desktop Notification

It is possible to have Google Mail send a notification on new mail to appear on your desktop. It's in the settings. Click on the Gear. Choose Settings from the list.  Scroll down until you see "Desktop Notifications". Select "New mail notifications on". Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select, "Save Changes".
